How to write a salon service menu clients understand

Name services in client language, explain what the price covers, and separate maintenance from bigger changes. Includes worked haircut and colour descriptions.

You know what "The Signature" includes. A new client sees the name and has to guess whether it is a haircut, a haircut with a beard trim, or something else entirely.

A useful salon service menu lets people choose without learning your internal vocabulary. That matters because the wrong choice reserves the wrong amount of time. You discover the problem when someone sits down and says, "I was hoping to change the colour too."

Write each service as a small agreement: what you will do, what the client will pay, how long to allow, and when they should speak to you before booking.

Start with the name a client would use

Keep a recognisable service name at the front. You can add a personal label afterwards if it helps your brand, but the practical meaning should survive on a small booking card.

Do not rename a service just to make it sound more expensive. Change the wording when it helps someone distinguish the work. "Root colour maintenance" and "Full colour change" describe different decisions; "Essential" and "Premium" do not explain the difference by themselves.

Put the deciding detail in the first sentence

Most clients do not need a long description of technique. They need the information that tells them whether this is their appointment.

For a maintained haircut:

Cut & style
A wash, haircut, and styled finish for maintaining or adjusting your current shape. Allow 60 minutes. Planning a major change from long to short? Contact me before booking so we can allow enough consultation time.

For a beard service:

Beard trim & shape
Length adjustment, outline, and finish for an existing beard. This appointment does not include a haircut. Choose "Haircut & beard trim" if you need both.

For a blow-dry:

Wash & blow-dry
A wash and styled finish, without a haircut. If your hair needs extra styling time, contact me before choosing a slot.

The last sentence should answer a real source of confusion, not every possible exception. If most clients understand the service, keep it short. If they repeatedly book it for a different result, revise the first sentence.

Separate maintenance from work that needs a consultation

Colour is a common source of mismatched expectations. A returning client maintaining the same colour is making a different booking from someone changing from dark hair to light or asking for correction work.

A maintenance description might read:

Root colour maintenance
For returning clients maintaining their existing colour. Includes the agreed root application and finish. For a colour change, correction, or your first colour visit with me, contact me to arrange a consultation before booking.

Adapt that to your actual service. If the finish is not included, say so. If you need preparation or checks before a colour appointment, explain the next step directly rather than letting someone reserve a service that cannot go ahead.

A longer appointment is not always the answer to uncertainty. A consultation helps you agree the work and timing before the client picks a slot. Do not put every colour request into one generic "Colour" appointment and hope the calendar will absorb the difference.

More descriptions you can adapt

Copy only what matches your actual service. Replace placeholders and keep the published price and duration beside the description.

A haircut with beard work

Haircut & beard trim A haircut plus beard length, outline, and finish. Allow [duration] for both. If you only want beard work, choose "Beard trim & shape".

A longer scissor cut

Scissor cut & finish A scissor-led cut for [the lengths or styles you offer], with a consultation and finish. Allow [duration]. For a major change of length or shape, contact me before booking.

A consultation before a larger change

Restyle consultation We will discuss your starting point, the result you want, and the work and timing involved. This appointment is for the consultation only; a haircut or colour service is booked separately once agreed.

A fringe appointment

Fringe trim Maintenance of an existing fringe, without a full haircut or styled finish. Planning a new fringe or a change of shape? Contact me first so we choose the right appointment.

Do not publish all these services simply because the wording is available. Keep the choices you actually offer.

Make the price mean something

A fixed price works best when the service has a clear scope. A price without a scope is where misunderstandings start.

Here is an illustrative small menu. These prices and durations are examples, not pricing recommendations:

Make the price mean something
ServiceIncluded workDurationPrice
Cut & styleWash, cut, and styled finish60 minutesRON 150
Colour refreshAgreed colour-maintenance service and finish90 minutesRON 250
Wash & blow-dryWash and styled finish, without a cut30 minutesRON 80

If hair length, density, or the requested technique changes the work materially, decide how clients should choose before publishing the menu. You might offer clearly described appointments for different scopes, or arrange a consultation. Avoid presenting an unexplained low "from" price as though it were the complete cost of every result shown in your gallery.

In beesolo, a service has a price and duration. Match those fields to the appointment you can actually deliver. Do not use a booking note as a substitute for agreeing a different service price in advance.

Set duration from the whole appointment

Time the complete visit. Consultation, washing, the work itself, checking the result, and the normal finish all need space. Your fastest regular client is a poor basis for every new booking.

Review a few ordinary appointments of the same type. If a service regularly takes 55 minutes, a 45-minute listing creates a predictable problem even if you occasionally finish early. If you also need time to reset the station, account for that separately in your scheduling decisions. The buffer-time guide walks through a full example.

Processing time deserves particular care when you work alone. A period when colour is developing is not automatically a safe opening for another client's appointment. Plan the attention and finishing work you still owe the first client.

Stop adding choices when they stop helping

Too many similar services can create as much doubt as too few. If two appointments have the same scope, price, and duration, ask whether the client needs to choose between them at all.

Keep separate choices when the difference changes the booking. A cut and a cut with beard work need different time. A new colour consultation and routine maintenance need different preparation. A slightly different finish may be something you discuss in the chair.

Try the menu with someone who does not know your naming system. Ask them to book a specific result. If they hesitate between two entries, write down why. The fix is usually a clearer distinction, not another service.

Keep the photo, caption, and menu in agreement

When you share work on Instagram, use the service name someone will find on your page. If a photo shows a larger change than the regular appointment covers, say that in the caption.

After changing a name or price, open the public booking page and follow the service through to the next step. Check the wording clients actually see. A good menu should reduce the number of appointments that begin with a correction to what was booked.
